Longford Live & Local

Over the past weekend (28th and 29th August) two concerts were held in The Green in Edgeworthstown, part of Longford Live & Local. Pauline Flood and Mostrim Players organized a collection in aid of Tidy Towns, which was generously supported by the audiences, raising over €370 for our group. We’d like to thank Pauline, Mostrim Players and all who donated to the collection. Don’t forget lines are on sale for our Harvest Draw in Edgeworthstown Post Office.

What Planet Are You On

What Planet Are You On? Is Back.

What Planet Are You On? presented by Maia Dunphy will return to RTÉ One television later this year.

Does your shower run a little longer than it should? Does the green bin give you a headache? Is the electric kettle always on boil? Is the family car never off the road? Then we want to hear from you!

We are looking for 4 households from across the country to take on the challenge of doing their bit for climate change. This is a great opportunity to learn they by making small changes the entire household can have a positive impact on Planet Earth.

Over the course of four weeks, with the support and help of the What Planet Are You On? experts each household will learn where they are going wrong by taking on the challenges to make improvements inside and outside of their home in the areas of water, waste, energy and food.

With €5,000 up for grabs for the most improved household – could your household take on the challenge?

Xmas Lights 2019

Congratulations to our own Beatrice Patterson who was selected to turn on the Christmas Lights in Edgeworthstown this year. Congratulations also to Edgeworthstown Mostrim Traders and all involved in making this such a memorable event. Congratulations to Quinn’s Supply Stores for their beautiful window display, a scene from ‘A Christmas Carol’.

Person of the Year Awards

Friday 11th of October we traveled to the Longford Arms to support Beatrice Patterson in the Longford Person of the Year awards. While Beatrice did not get chosen as overall winner we are proud that she was nominated and was a worthy nominee. Beatrice also has been 40 years employed with C&D which the company marked at an event on Friday morning so lots of celebrations in the Patterson house this weekend. It is a mark of her dedication that she was out bright and early this morning sweeping the streets and emptying bins. Congratulations Beatrice, all the nominees and overall winners Mullinaghta GFC.

Eid ul Fitr

One thing we have always tried to do is involve more of the New Irish in our work and one of our volunteers also works in the Muslim community and to this end  the Edgeworthstown Tidy Towns Committee would like to thank Maqbool Ahmed for his invitation to the Eid ul Fitr Dinner this evening(8th June) in the Community Centre to mark the end of Ramadhan. As part of the ceremonies before hand there was a reading from the Qur’an – the same verses translated into English and Irish. All in all an enjoyable evening.
