Craft Fair & Xmas Lights 2016

Sunday 4th December was the date of the second Craft fair held in Edgeworthstown, featuring forty stalls offering a variety of homemade food, arts and crafts. Santa Claus attended as well for the children. The Fair was held in Edgeworthstown Community Centre and was a great success.

On the same evening Tidy Towns members along with members of the Fire Brigade and Edgeworthstown Traders provided stewarding for the switching on of the Christmas Lights. A large crowd came out to support the event and Santa and Mrs Claus made an appearance as well. Leanne Keegan, who plays for Mostrim Ladies GAA team, and was on the Longford Ladies team that won an All-Ireland title earlier in the year did the honours and turned on the lights.

Craft Fair and Christmas Lights

On Sunday the 6th – Edgeworthstown held a Craft fair in the Community Centre – it was well attended with about twenty exhibitors showing their wares. Santa attended as well so the kids were lined up to visit with him. Afterwards, Lisa Fox turned on the Xmas lights in the company of the local Folk group, MC Jimmy Connell and about 200 people. Lisa (who comes from the town) has made a name for herself as an actress, appearing as ‘Gertie Gúna ‘ on RTE television as well as ‘Once: The Musical’. This year marked the début of our first Xmas tree, delivered and raised into position by the local Fire Brigade who volunteered their services. Photos from the occasion below.

Tidy Towns would like to wish all their volunteers and their families a very Merry Xmas and a safe, healthy and Happy New Year.

2013 Calendar

It’s that time of year when people start thinking of Christmas and things they might get for family and friends. As we did last year the Tidy Towns Committee and the Christmas Lights Committee joined forces again to create a calendar for 2013. At a price of €3 they are not expensive and would make a nice gift. Of course it all goes to a good cause, adding a touch of seasonal flair to our town and going a small way towards helping with costs for the Tidy Towns in 2013. The Calendars are on sale in every shop in town and we’re hoping people will send them to family and friends abroad. We are also using the Calendars to promote the ‘Gathering’ event taking place in July of next year. On Friday 30th November we had our official launch and the switch on of the Christmas lights. We’d like to thank Quinn’s Supply Stores for the use of their reindeer!!

Like most volunteer groupsour Tidy Town committee is always on the lookout for new funds to keep projects running or to just get them done. While a certain amount of funding comes from various grant bodies there is always the onus on us as a group to get more money, somewhere. In a small population that usually means competing with every other volunteer group also on the lookout for funds. This year as a fund raiser, and in conjuction with the Christmas Lights Committee, we decided to create a calendar. Just a simple A3 page featuring past and present photos of the town we got it printed in Ballyjamesduff and are now selling them around the town and online. If you’re interested in getting one please contact for more information. The price of each calendar is €3. Check out the gallery below for photos of our Christmas lights and a photo of what the Claendar looks like.

Finally we’d like to wish all our volunteers and their families as well as visitors to this site a Happy Christmas and a peaceful healthy New Year.
