1916 Re-enactment

2016 is the 100th anniversary of one of the ky events in Irish history – the Easter Rising of 1916. All around the country communities are marking the occasion and Edgeworthstown is no different. On the 1st May Mostrim Players, assisted by a number of other community groups put on a pageant featuring the funeral of O’Donovan Rossa as well as the reading of the proclamation in front of the GPO as well as a recreation of the Rising itself, focusing on the GPO and ending with the execution of the signatories. Some photos from the occasion are below – the rest can be found on the Edgeworth Society website.
