109 Years

In the past few weeks a piece of local history was consigned to memory with the demolishing of St. Mary’s old school. Formerly known as St. Elizabeth’s it opened it’s doors in 1905 as a primary school. There were many who felt it  shame that there wasn’t something done to preserve it and I suppose it would be nice to think of it being useful – but with a brand new school almost complete the economic reality is that it could not survive. For a lot of local people there will only be the memories for generations of local people.
